You may have noticed that things look a little different around here. I wanted to take a moment to explain the change and what I hope you can take away from future articles.

While "Rewriting Myth" captured a slice of what I focus on, a small voice kept whispering, "There's more than just that." At first, this voice was like a mosquito buzzing past quickly, gone before I could fully grasp it. But over time, it grew louder, demanding to be heard.

Mythological stories have always been fascinating to me, and while I still enjoy retelling them from new perspectives, fictional retellings are just one aspect of my work. While I'm currently working on projects such as short stories and a work-in-progress secular retelling of The Divine Comedy, these aren't the primary focus of this Substack.

My core focus is to analyze narratives we have inherited, both as individuals and as a society, examining how myths, legends, religion, and history shape the lens through which we see ourselves.

I wanted to have a name and look that conveyed that.

Why “Through the Mythic Glass”?

This is no longer a space where we simply rewrite the myths that shape who we are, but where we untangle the narratives that have spun their way into our very being. It's not just about myths; it's about how they reflect and shape modern life.

This space is about seeing ourselves through the lens of human history and myths and deconstructing them to see how they have shaped us.

When we look in a mirror, it’s tempting to think the mirror is showing our complete selves. But beneath that reflection are thousands of years of history, religion, and myths that mold our self-image.

At the same time, when we look through the “glass” of our computer screens and smartphones, we might believe we’re seeing the world as it truly is. Just as a mirror only reveals you on a surface level, our society runs deeper than what we can glimpse on the electronic glass.

We need to see through the glass to take in the bigger picture. Through the Mythic Glass is about deconstructing the world we live in by examining the stories we’ve inherited.

I hope that in these articles, you’ll be a little like Alice about to tumble into the rabbit hole, where your curiosity will lead to a whole new way of seeing yourself and the world around you. I hope that you, the reader, will feel introspective, empowered, and curious, not just about yourself and what makes you tick, but about how myth and history have created narratives that affect us all.
